Wow...have we ever been blessed with some great weather this past opposite from the week before!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!  Miss you with all that I am.  My Mom would have been 87 years old today...she was the backbone of her 5 children.  Always cheering us on, even if it sounded like yelling (smiling)...XOXO

Summer is never a very busy time at The Cinnamon Stick...but we have been  encouraged with July sales and maybe (just maybe) the economy is starting to rejuvenate here in my neck of the woods.  I am looking forward to a great fall and Christmas season....which motivates me to work double time to make the store a fun and exciting place to visit!!

Somehow Tony keeps coming up with some unique finds, like this wooden pedestal,  and partnering them with a pinkeep tuffet from Helen Voytilla and a sweet little cloche, I can come up with a fun display.

Can you guess what I am creating in this picture??

Last evening we had a workshop to make an Autumn Tyme  or Pumpkintyme banner..
This group was so much fun....4 oldies (but goodies)  and 2 new gals.  (we really missed you Michelle F.-her job kept her too late)!!

A picture or two...

...a simple group of supplies....a bit of creativity...some perseverance....

 ...turns into this!!

...and our other Michelle is in big trouble for not getting her picture taken...!!! :)

Yesterday I went to the Philadelphia Gift Show...and although it is a show catering to the more "gifty" type stores (than a country store), I was able to find some fun new goodies for you.

An encouraging sign was that it was busy with storekeepers - I saw license plates from all over New England, New Jersey, and the South...even California!!  (and that was just in the row that I parked in)!

Gives you faith that the other shopkeepers are feeling good about their stores and customers...and the economy.  The mood was upbeat and you could feel excitement in the air....alittle different than the Market Square summer show.   I always meet the nicest people too.

Remember (?) last year when I talked about that "hot chocolate machine" ---well I purchased it!  So when that "cold" weather hits us....we will have delicious hot chocolate to serve you!!(and sell you)!! (we will have Elf on the Shelf hot chocolate too - even the BIG grandchildren play Elf on the Shelf with the little ones)!!

Before I get too far ahead of myself, I am off to finish up some projects for our Halloween workshops - join us if you can!!

Gosh, I started playing with Halloween and I am in my "glory"!!  Having fun creating with orange and black and things that go "bump in the night" keep popping up at the strangest times...I think this is going to be the best Halloween season ever!

Of course I won't forget fall....we just got in bunches of preserved "Sweet Annie" for you to fill your crocks with fall arrangements!  Some twigs, bittersweet and Sweet Annie... sounds perfect to me!

UPS and two deliveries from Fed-Ex kept me stepping today...slowly!! Five air conditioners were blasting and still if you moved too much you got "hot" !! (two were in the attic for our Keep Calm was not nice up there)!!
I usually get excited with new deliveries but oh the unpacking and taking boxes up and down the basement steps...just made me tired.

Now that everything is out of the way and in the basement storage area I am excited
with all the new treasures.  We are going to have a Witch's Potion workshop and all the bottles came in today!!  (although I ordered from a website and it was hard to really see them they are perfect!)  Can't wait to start making some samples!

I watered the planters TWICE today....98 degrees!!

Bin full of small advertising clips...these came in last week but I couldn't post with all my computer aches and pains....hopefully "it" is recovered!!  These are sweet!!!  I think you "need" one or two!!
Stay cool....we only have two rooms with air in this olde house...and I am going to go enjoy one of them...!!!

My email had a new "Willard" from Susan Branch MUST get this email - it makes all the crap go away (for awhile) and lets you dream of the good times, of fairies and happy people...she is such an "exquisite" writer, artist and person....sign up to receive her emails - you won't be sorry!!

I would love to be her friend!

This weather has been downright horrid these past days....zaps the energy and makes me work in " s l o w " motion!! (and why the cat insists on sitting on top of me I do not know)!!

I have been staying in the house "creating" - searching (Pinterest) for new ideas???
and thinking of sunflowers and pumpkins!
I can get lost on Pinterest and have to stay away...oh my!! So many creative people out there!

I don't like rushing the seasons (I really don't)and we still have summer vacation to look forward to, but this humidity and temps in the 90's is not fun!  So hopefully thinking of fall will do the trick in keeping me from melting!

Dead trees and crows....of course!!!

Who are we ...??
When I look at THE CINNAMON STICK, I see how much we have grown and yet stayed the same.  Does that make any sense to you?  Our personal values, business ethics, integrity and our love of the old and new has never faltered.   However, we have also grown to love the vintage style in creating with paper goods, ephemera and I keep getting in deeper and deeper (smiling)!!
I have never been the dirty, grungy, extreme prim girl  -  I love the aged and worn look that comes with years of loving and taking care of one's possessions.  (even if you have to "fake" that look with coffee dying)
I have never been a collector of "real" antiques...but the preserver of the odds and ends and sometimes they turn out to be the best!!   In the movement of "flea market" finds, recycling and repurposing, we realize we have always done this...necessity (financial) and love of the unique.... and although we started before "Country Living Magazine" said it was okay to fill your house with (what our families called junk), we found many people who guided us along as we sat at auctions and purchased barrels for 50 cents....egg crates for $1.00  -  We have never upgraded - and I am so thankful for all the guidance a young couple received 46 years ago when we set up housekeeping, because it has given us a "way of life" - a career for 29 years and so many fun outings treasure hunting.
Just thought it was time to let you know who we are...and with good health, good fortune and good friends, we will continue to be "just who we are" for a very long time yet!!

We are offering one last summertime project - "a tiny fairy in a vintage jar"!! The picture is not so good...(sorry)!
There are six different little fairies to choose from - butterfly wings of your choice - and an old jar to keep her in.

The start of MY weekend...wash goes in the washer and dryer, the refrigerator gets cleared of all the things I was going to use up but didn't, trash goes out to the curb and bookwork for the week is completed and the bills are paid!
Grocery shopping comes next and a trip to the craft stores with coupons in today I am going to mess the whole routine up and head to the store to prepare the Attic Studio for fall/Halloween projects.   It is "all about the fairies" up there and it is time to put those projects away.
Sounds like I am rushing the seasons, however, we have so many cool things to make for the fall season we just have to start now...!!!
Today is a good day to start!!

...after 4 days away from the store.  Was really happy to get back in the swing of things...made lots of messes (didn't clean them up either)!!  Spent some time in the Attic Studio putting summer patterns away and digging out some old ones for fall/Halloween!  It was HOT up there...we do have two air conditioners in the two little windows but you really have to turn them on as soon as I arrive and not half way through the day...whew!!  Record breaking heat happening in our neighborhood - and not letting up!
The rest of the store, both floors, were nice and  cool - old homes are extremely expensive to put central air in so window air conditioners (thank goodness) do the job!

Decided today was the day to showcase "sunflowers"....(along with a neat old stoneware storage
Welcome  Marc to our blog!

Tony and I are headed for the Poconos to go here -
Every July 4th we visit this antique mall and usually find something very "unique"...(for those that visit the the old shopping cart).  Hoping today we bring something (or lots of things) home with us.  We will have lunch in the town of Stroudsburg in the sweetest little cafĂ© (can't remember name) - a nice place to visit for a good lunch.

In other news .....just brought in this wire rack (sorry just for display) love affair with wire items never goes away!  Not sure what will be displayed here,  but I did put it in the Stationary/Candle room...and I do have an order of new cards and notepads coming...hmmmm...might be the perfect spot for them!
Stop in soon and see what I did with it!!

I hope not cause that is what is happening around here!   If we don't get started NOW the fall/Halloween season will be upon us before we know it.  There are so many ideas floating around me that I don't know quite where to start.  Maybe with some black cats....I think that will be a good place!  Of course some pumpkins wouldn't be a bad place to start either..or maybe some fall bunting...or...........!!!!  You can see I am in a "tizzy" right now !!! (smiling)...Halloween is my favorite holiday next to Christmas of course (cause at Christmas you get to buy presents for everyone)!!
Don't fret -the store is filled with great summerthyme goodies and will be until the middle of August when we just might start "harvesting" some fall goods!

Coming soon - fun Halloween Gift Totes you can make in our Keep Calm and Create Thursday workshops!
