GETTING READY...

The weather this week has been so wonderful - alittle cooler today (yesterday I had the air conditioner on in the store) - there is so much "prep" work for the "Herb Faire" - I hope this weekend is decent so we can work outside.
With the nice weather the trees are unfurling their leaves - apple blossoms on the apple trees promise a great harvest - and tulips dot the countryside as I drive to work.  (even the weeds - mustard grass - looks beautiful in a sea of yellow blooms)  I have a "fondness" for dandelions (Tony does NOT) so I will enjoy them until he desecrates them!
Off and on this morning I am watching the Royal Wedding - so beautiful....but the happiness gets quickly replaced with the horror of the tornadoes in the south.  God Bless everyone there.
I couldn't help myself and had to pick a bouquet of lemon balm.....this is such a pretty herb to enjoy in "country bouquets" !!

1/2 A PROMISE KEPT...

I tried...really I did - but only got half my counters cleared today....I was able to do business anyway - however, tomorrow for sure.  Joanne (http://snippetsandscrapsandpieces.blogspot.com/) stopped in today and she is going to help me me during the Herb Faire and the following week when I have a wedding to go to - I promised to have the counters in tip top shape when she works...(big smile) however, they didn't scare her!!  (they scared me)!!!

This morning (and one of the reasons why I didn't get everything accomplished) - a candy order came in from Sweet Jubilee - OH MY !!  These are called "fudge tiles" how beautiful the packaging ! ("we" taste tested the peanut butter fudge...DELISH!!!)  The fudge is completely covered in chocolate - milk, dark or white and so handsomely decorated - I didn't get a good picture of it but you can see alittle bit in this one....
Peanut butter, Cherry Dreams, Strawberries and Cream, Chocolate, Vanilla Bean

I also ordered these cubes filled with molded chocolates - flowers - butterflies...etc....so pretty!  They come in a plastic "decorated with ribbon" cube with a painted tin watering can on top with a butterfly on the bow....such a beautiful presentation. - GREAT MOTHER'S DAY GIFTS!!!

The candy counter looks all dressed up !!
Lots of goodies are filling the store.....some good olde treasures too!!!

...alittle before and after !

THE MESS!

ALL POLISHED...

SIDE ONE

SIDE TWO...

The rest of the room is just about done....tweaking every day to get ready for our Herb Faire....stop in and see all our new goodies!

MAKING MESSES....

That is what I did all day yesterday....don't believe me...take a peek !!!  (click on pictures to enlarge)
Above is my cash counter - and yes lunch was potato chips and diet Coke!

...stairway and mantel at back door!

...center of right side of room.
..vintage gift wrapping counter dividing the room (this is now empty waiting to be "polished")

I really need to "shake-up" the first floor of the store... major overhaul !!  I have two very large display pieces and a cash counter that can't be moved so I have to work around them.  (I am one of those people that the room doesn't look "clean" unless it gets changed around) (sigh!)   I pushed and shoved - redid over and over again until finally I LIKED how the room looked.   When you sell antiques and have a small room, you really have to be able to be creative in making displays.  Sometimes it is a challenge (especially with 7 windows, 3 doorways, stairs and stone walls)~~~TODAY - I have to put everything together... find room for all that "stuff" in the pictures  and make sure I am ready to open tomorrow morning...I think I am "up" for the challenge....we shall see - (big smile)!!

ps...it was really worse than this I took the pictures when I was half done....

SUNSHINE...

TWO DAYS in a row...that has to be a record for these past weeks!!!  I certainly am grateful as my spirits seem to "rise" with the sun!!  These are the last days before Easter and I am "antsy" to get on with Garden Thyme - I seem to always want to "rush" time and but then complain because it is going to fast....some days I don't make alot of sense!!! (big smile)!!
With Easter being late this year, everything seems to be happening all at once....May Day, Herb Faire, Mother's Day - working in a new class schedule - it is not hard to get overwhelmed!  I just need to make more lists...and better yet - start crossing off what needs to be accomplished....LOL!!
Sweet Annie has arrived ....she is our store greeter and truly loves her job - just look at that smile!!  A longtime employee who will be celebrating her 20th anniversary very soon....I think we will have a party for her !!

The "scents" of the new potpourri's in the store are just wonderful....as soon as you walk in they greet you and although strong they are not overwhelming...stop in soon and delight your "nose" !!!

IT IS HERE...

...Easter Week...it has been a long time coming!   With 8 little grandchildren the holidays are filled with anticipation and excitement  around here!  Easter baskets are lined up waiting to be filled - cartons of eggs in the refrigertor waiting to be hard boiled and dyed in a rainbow of colors.  With both my children having four children (and one on the way) you NEED LOTS OF EGGS TO DYE!  So we will be eating - pickled eggs, deviled eggs and egg salad till we look like an egg.  Are you in the same boat??  Here is a delicious recipe for you to use some of those eggs....

LAVENDER EGG SALAD
The Rosemary House, Mechanicsburg, PA
10 hard boiled eggs, chopped fine
1 teaspoon curry
1 Tablespoon lavender blossoms, dried
1/3 - 1/2 cup mayonnaise
white bread
( I also like to chop some celery in this recipe and use a bit more mayonnaise)

I have served this at our Herb Faire the past two years and really it is delicious!   You can purchase "culinary lavender" at THE CINNAMON STICK or where I get it -  http://www.crowsnestprimitiveshoppe.com/    !!  OR you can purchase "lavender plants" at our Herb Faire beginning May 4th....(please weather turn warm) and grow your own!  More about our Herb Faire soon....!!!

WHAT A WEEK....

I have been sick...you know when you have that cold that isn't bad enough for the "Docs" to give you "real" medicine but sick enough that you want to tear your nose off your face... and the coughing...yegads!!  That little tickle that turns into a rampage of coughing till the eyes tear - sorry to be so graphic - it got to the point I had to excuse myself from the room....sigh!   I have gone thru 3/4's of a bottle of hand sanitizer at the store so customers weren't afraid to come near me!   I am feeling better today!
THE WORSE PART.....this beautiful "Potpourri" arrived on Friday and I couldn't even smell it...!!!!!!!
This is "French Country Mint"  - customers tell me it is "wonderful" !!  So different!

Also new is "Blue Lilac" - that I haven't displayed yet but will today - and I also refilled our hat box of "Red Hot Cinnamon" - a store favorite!
This store display (most likely from the 50's) is a cool  piece - let your imagination soar how you can use this !(bathroom, little girl's room, sewing room, porch)...the ideas are endless - !!

Don't forget we still have some really nice Easter decorations and gifts if you haven't done that yet!  Like these -
(only 3 left now)!!  Happy Sunday (the sun is shining here..after a terrible day of rain and wind yesterday)...Yippeeeee!!

GETTING IMPATIENT...

,,,,,waiting for spring!  Is it my age ?? ...Am I reverting backwards to when I was a child and everything had to happen "right away" ??  Is this what happens when you hit the "over 60 club" ??  Or is it just "who I am" ?  I am going to believe it is JUST who I am....(big smile)...
Today is blustery, cold, damp and just miserable....and my cold just makes it worse.   I am SO ready to get on with spring, our gardens and pretty posies!!

Yesterday I picked up our "CINNAMON THYMES" Herbal...it is now the 4th printing.  A sweet little herbal written by me in 1995 and illustrated by Mary Lou Jenkins (the illustrations are just wonderful)!!  Here is a peek of the cover -

and the centerfold.....
It is copied on cream colored paper and consists of 18 pages...of very basic, but fun herbal info and recipes.  This herbal makes a nice gift along with an herb plant or two...!!!  Cost is $3.00

When I look out the window it looks like it is 5 pm on a winter's eve - think I will go have a conversation with the sun if he is up there somewhere!!

WELL.... somedays are harder than others...

After hours and hours of trying to post on this blog I gave up...asked friends to help...tried everything and certainly if my mother were here she would have washed my mouth out with soap!!  I got up this morning....(BTW I got the bug or I should say he got me...stinks!) and clicked onto the blog and here I am posting....well it didn't post yet - we shall see!!

Anyway I wanted to share this sweet little girl with you...Adelaide - she was in the store Sunday with her parents and grandparents and after trying to divert her from the cups and saucers of jelly beans, M & M's etc. they showed her the Easter bonnets - you guessed it...she put one right on her head and came to the counter to show me...is she not the sweetest!!
It was also VERY important to get "tiny lamb" in the picture!
Adelaide also got the bonnet to take home...she is going to be the "sweetest gal in the Easter Parade" !

It has been a busy but very fun week.....Sharon (http://www.moosecraftusa.blogspot.com/) came on Friday with our friend Joanne - if you remember Sharon was the gal who named our "MAKE-DO" room.  Sharon did some serious shopping before her and Joanne took off for lunch and MORE shopping...next time I am going with them!!

I am very busy getting things ready for our upcoming Herb Faire - the weather is not co-operating with getting all that has to be done - DONE though!!  Yesterday was so beautiful and I was laid up (even went to the doctors) - figures!   I am going to try and post this and "fingers crossed" it will work.

RADISHES AND CHIVES..

When I went to the store yesterday to "mess around" (bought new goodies on Monday and had to get them priced)...I checked out our herb garden (really needs alot of clean-up - rain rain go away and the cold, windy weather too) anyway - the chives looked so perky and pretty that I grabbed a handful and brought them home to serve this today in the store:

RADISH & CHIVE SPREAD

8 oz. cream cheese softened
1 T. butter (a must)
1 c. red radishes
1/2 c. fresh chives
1/2 t. salt
Cream butter and cream cheese - add
finely cut radishes ( I use a food chopper) and the chives (I use kitchen shears) and salt
Mix well with mixer - refrigerate
Serve with crackers or veggies!!
This is always a customer favorite in the store - I serve it on "butterfly crackers" from Pepperidge Farm.

Also brought this wonderful piece in for sale....

21 drawers - just waiting for you to fill with anything you want!!  Forgot to get the dimensions...will do that today!
The sun is shining but it is too chilly to get out in the garden...so guess I will just have to stay indoors and play today!

OPENING DAY AT THE LOCAL FLEA MARKET...

It was the first day of our local flea market and we (Tony and I) were there as the sun rose (it was quite pretty).  Not going to talk much about the weather as it was very cold and windy - but the vendors were there all bundled up and many shoppers!
We found two nice old wooden wagon wheels...plant stand...some spoons for my herb markers...some really cool old door numbers (had to put out more $$'s than I wanted for them but they are pretty unique)...cast iron chicken feeders (2)...and forgetting what else!  All will be in the store as Tony  gets it cleaned up.  Oh yeah...some old bottles (I am really low on them as "sprig" season is upon us and I like to wire them and fill with herbal sprigs).

Terri  (Olde Button Tin) brought in these "Posie Pockets" all lined with much handwork on them...$20. each...you really NEED to have one of these - wish my pictures did them justice.
She also brought us the most amazing dolls....all looking so old and worn....not dirty or messy....Terri makes her dolls look like they have been well loved for many, many years with lots of handstitching....they are to be treasured.
The sun is shining bright and I think everyone should come shopping at THE CINNAMON STICK today!

MOTHER NATURE'S APRIL FOOLS JOKE???

From my window this morning....

...and it hasn't stopped...big (pretty) but unwanted flakes of that white stuff!! There is more since I took these pictures this morning (it is all white now)...just another big messy day and I really, really wanted to play!!! Of course all the "winter" stuff is put away - boots, hats, scarfs - snow shovel!!! (big SIGH!!)
