Home Again, Home Again Jiggety, Jig, Jig.....

My Mom use to say that to us whenever we arrived home from a long journey....and of course I said it to my children and I am sure they repeat it to theirs....!!!

I AM HOME FROM VACATION....we had a great time but I am anxious to get back into my normal routine....I am not much of a beach person but the kids LOVE it so that is where we go. We stayed in a lovely olde Victorian Bed & Breakfast in Cape May, can get quite spoiled very quickly!! Home to reality, and with the ending of July, lots of busy times working on our Harvest Thyme Open House and our Autumn Frolic...always something exciting to think about!!
First picture is of my son and daughter....(we won't talk about my son's tatoos...!!) :( the second is SOME of the grandboys... and grandaughter....3 of the grandboys going down the slide into the "deep" water....and Blakely the youngest grandaughter.....gotta love being a Grandmom!!!

I just needed to write about the mixed media, altered art, collage and paper artists out there....I have just begun to pursue an interest in this art form...and just LOVE IT.....the best is that I have yet to encounter one person who is not encouraging or helpful. Everyone I have met is so into sharing and GIVING - giving me advice on where to start, what to read and how to make unique pieces of art. I love the writing on the sidebar of Shabby Cottage Studio - it says on her site -

"A gathering spot for like minds to find their inspirational spark, to create, to play. A place where thinking outside the box is encouraged and the stretching of your artistic wings hopeful."

How wonderful is that!
If anyone of you are visiting here today - I just want you to know how grateful I am....and how sweet your community of artists are. I am diving in head first and will learn as I go.....this from a prim gal who never looked "outside the box" !!! But is having so much fun doing so... !!! A special thanks to Dawn at for her encouragement and my sweet friend Sharon for taking this journey with me !! You'll know when I ARRIVED when I join a challenge in LOL!!! Hugs to all - Judy

~:~I CAUGHT A FAIRY....and you can too~:~

Hi friends...this is our next class...."capturing a fairy and putting her in a jar"....she won't mind I promise! Sharon and I had a great time creating these "Fairy Jars" - the "twinkle" of glitter is everywhere! Dawn from was our inspiration....and we are calling this "fru-fru prim" vocabulary with new creations! IF you would like more info on the class email me at with your email address.

It is HOT in Pennsylvania.... hoping for a break in this heat wave soon. Living in an olde farmhouse, central air is out of the question so window air conditioners are all we have....AND I don't like them hanging out the front windows, so parts of this olde house are very uncomfortable when the temp is in the 90' are moving air around but ......maybe it is getting older that makes me mind the heat nowadays!

One more week and off to vacation for a few days at the beach.....much needed - I will come back refreshed and ready for fall.....I see so much fall on the internet already and the stores are stocking their shelves....way too early for me....maybe the middle of August we will make a small display - but our open house will not be until September 3rd....and of course our ~:~AUTUMN FROLIC~:~ is September 27th...lots of exciting happenings at THE CINNAMON STICK!

....and I just had to share them with you.....Sharon from Vintage Threads brought these on Saturday! Now I know there is lots of summer left - including my vacation - but I have to think fall and Halloween. The Autumn season has become ALMOST as big as Christmas in our little part of the world, and Halloween....well....we are pretty well known for our love of Halloween!
Okay back to the "good olde summerthyme" - Sharon and I are working on our next class tomorrow so hopefully there will be a date for our "Fairy in a Jar" project soon. I know I want to make one for each of my granddaughters to put in their rooms. Kennedy is 7 and Blakely is 3 - sisters, friends and Grandmom's pride and joy! They just moved into a new home on Thursday so this will be a "room warming" present for them.
(Thank you Dawn - for the inspiration!)
The store has some new items for your gardens....2 new garden chairs, sacks to display your dried herbs, herb bunches, we made more herb markers, and a couple new pillows are ready for sale. There's more but my mind is all cluttered with pumpkins and witches and things that go bump in the night.....

Now this is what I call fun....a bunch of girls getting together to learn a new craft and make new friends. Boo-hoo I had to tend the store while Sharon gave the lesson...however I did sneak up to take pictures and visit with everyone. (I have never made a yo-yo in my life so the right person was teaching...!!) All the girls seemed to have a good time and asked for more projects to make so that is exactly what we are going to do.....thinking maybe we will go out and capture a "fairy" and put her in a jar. Of course we won't keep her in there unless she REALLY wants to stay with us....I am pretty sure we can find a few who would love to find a new home if we make it extra special!

More pictures of the class are on my picturetrail. Our classes are being held in the attic turned "workroom"...have a few "kinks" to work out but we are hoping to have inexpensive projects going frequently....this is fun!!

I want to make a cool picture on the top of my the altered art and mixed media gals do - HOWEVER I don't have a clue how to do it....the layering! I am sure there has to be an easier way than what I am imagining...!!! I am on a mission - time will tell !

It is a rainy day in PA and a good time to pull out the fall/Halloween patterns and decide what I need to make for our Harvest Thyme Open House...(September 3rd). We have another big event happening on September 27th...our "AUTUMN FROLIC" - renowned folkartist Barbara Young ( ) is coming again this year to do a personal signing of her handmade items. We had so much fun last year - Barbara is the sweetest and most generous person. She hails from Washington State and will come via "their home away from home" across country - visiting friends and kindred spirits along the way. Destination...THE CINNAMON lucky can one get! Much more of these "festivities" later....

Off to work.....

Gathering herbs....

The rain seems to keep coming for all the special events or days we plan (Fourth of July picnic)....however...luckily Tony and I harvested our herb gardens to the bare bones and now the beautiful rain will feed the wounded stems and get them growing very quickly again. The fairies will be pleased with the rain I am sure!

Since picnic plans had to be cancelled due to the weather...Tony and I went - "antiquing" of course !! We traveled about 1 1/2 hours to Stroudsburg, PA where we like to visit and antique co-op called The Olde Engine Works. We came home with some treasures and will get them in the store shortly. Two awesome wooden chairs - painted a subdued pumpkin color - these are going to make great garden chairs especially with a pot full of mums for the fall.....and lots more.

Above is a picture of the drying racks Tony made from the 1983 Country Living magazine....I have had mine since then and love it. Right now it is in the living room but sometimes it is in the bathroom and sometimes in the kitchen - I am always changing things around in the house and you never know where something might end up! We have the drying racks in the store for sale now, if you are interested stop in !!
Hope you are having a wonderful holiday weekend......still raining here.....

July is a good and busy month for me.....lots of celebrations....4th of July, Tony's birthday, Shannon's (my daughter) birthday, Cullen - grandson will be "4" (oh my already!) and vacation plans at the end of the month....I am sure I am missing a few in there! Our first class at the store will be on the 12th and we are really looking forward to having many more. Very excited about them!

I have the herbs we harvested drying in the porch room - mint, lamb's ear, tarragon and feverfew -I will take them to the store this week for sale. They will look great on our open beams and drying racks. Soon the sage will be ready and the second crop of oregano...everything is growing so nicely and the fairies are very pleased indeed!
